How It Happened
Rhode Island moved up to second place in the Atlantic 10 standings with a 2-1 win over Saint Joseph's Saturday night at the URI Soccer Complex.

Edvin Akselsen got the scoring started in the 25th minute, collecting a rebound off of his own blocked shot and then beating SJU's Joseph Boehm for the 1-0 advantage. Stavros Zarokostas later doubled the lead, with 2:01 remaining in the first half, when he maneuvered around a St. Joe's defender in the box and fired a shot inside the left post.

Saint Joseph's returned from the break recharged and threw everything they had at the Rams. The Hawks finally broke through in the 76th minute when Leon Maric scored off a setup from Eddie McCusker.

Zarokostas nearly added an insurance goal for the Rams in the 80th minute, but his attempt from the right side of the box bounced out off the crossbar. Boehm then made back-to-back saves on a pair of 82nd-minute attempts by Dominik Richter to end the game with Rhody on top 2-1.
