KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Stavros Zarokostas has been named the Atlantic 10's Offensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office. The honor follows a 2-0 week for the Rams, in which Zarokostas scored a pair of dramatic game-winning goals.
With Rhody and St. Bonaventure tied 2-2 on Wednesday night, Zarokostas netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 88th minute. He went on to score another late game-winner Saturday night at La Salle, finding the back of the net in the 104th minute for the double-overtime victory.
The Coventry, R.I. native now has 33 career points (13g/7a) in 31 games played.
Zarokostas is the third Ram to earn Atlantic 10 weekly honors this season as senior goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm was a three time Defensive Player of the Week and junior forward Chae Brangman was last week's Offensive Player of the Week.
Unbeaten over their last eight games, the Rams (7-2-2, 3-0-0 A-10) return to action on Tuesday night at Holy Cross.
