KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island senior goalkeeper Nils Leifhelm has been named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week, announced Monday afternoon by the conference office.
A native of Munster, Germany, Leifhelm posted his 17th and 18th career shutouts in URI's wins over Bryant and Marist last week. Overall, he combined for nine saves in the two games - three against the Bulldogs and six against the Red Foxes. It marked the third time in his career that he recorded back-to-back clean sheets, having also done so twice during his freshman season.
The A-10 award is the sixth of Leifhelm's career as he was a four-time Rookie of the Week in 2014 and earned Defensive Player of the Week accolades once last season.
Rhody (3-2-0) returns to action on Saturday night at New Hampshire.
