Stevens, Valois Finish Strong at 47th Northeast Amateur Invitational

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brad Valois fired his third straight round of 70 (+1), while teammate Mark Stevens carded a 71 (+2) as the Rhody golf duo finished up the final day of competition at the 47th Northeast Amateur Invitational, held from June 18-21, at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford.

Valois went out in 34 - carding two birdies - before closing the back nine in 36. The Warwick, R.I. native shot 72 or better in each of his four rounds of action and finished with a four-day total of 282 (72-70-70-70), good for a tie for 27th place.

Stevens shot his best round of the four-day tournament, carding a two-over 71 on Saturday afternoon. The Concord, N.H. native went out in 38, before closing the back nine out in 33. He birdied the 13th and 17th hole and did not register a bogey during that span. For the four days, Stevens totalled 290 (77-69-73-71), closing the final three days strong. He tied for 61st overall.

Both players were recently honored by being named to the 2008 Division I PING All-New England Region team.

For the fourth and final day of action on Saturday, June 21, Stevens is set to tee off at 8:08 a.m. while Valois will begin final round action at 10:32 a.m.

Eighty-two players from around the world are competiting in one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments. Contestants are selected on the basis of their respective competitive record and accomplishments in major tournaments. The Northeast Amateur will be played over the span of four days, with an 18-hole round each day.
