2009 Ping Division I All-Region release

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Two members of the Rhode Island golf team were named to the 2009 Division I Ping All-Northeast Region team.

Freshman Taylor Fontaine and senior Mark Stevens were both honored for their outstanding play during the 2009 spring season.

Fontaine finished third overall (72-73-71=217, +4) at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship, held April 24-26 at the Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort. By virtue of his finish as the top overall newcomer, he was named the league's Co-Rookie of the Year.

Stevens closed out his outstanding Rhode Island career with a tie for 12th place at the A-10 Championship, carding a total of 224 strokes (73-78-73). This marks Stevens' second Ping All-Region team selection.

Fontaine and Stevens finished among the top two golfers for URI throughout the 2009 spring campaign.
