Rams Finish Up Play at 74th Annual NEIGA Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. -- The University of Rhode Island golf team finished in a tie for 11th place at the 74th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) championship.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament was held Oct. 20-21 at the Captain's Course (par 72, 6,687 yards) in Brewster, Mass.
The Rams compiled a total score of 633 (325-308, +54). Bryant took the team title with a two-day total of 604 (313-291, +28).
Leading the way for the Rams were Brad Valois and Kevin Josephson. Both players tied for 19th place overall, with a total of 153 (+9). Valois shot a first day 79 and closed out tournament play with a two-over 74 on day two. Josephson opened with a first round 78 before closing with a 75 this afternoon.
Mark Stevens finished in a tie for 52nd place (80-79=159), while Taylor Fontaine finished tied for 124th (88-80=168). Cody Larson (163rd place, 92-82=174) rounded out the URI scorers. Sacred Heart's Matt Belizze took individual medalist honors, after a playoff hole determined him the winner. He finished the tournament with a score of 147 (76-71).
Rhode Island closes out the 2008 Spring season at the Sam Hall Intercollegiate, held in Hattiesburg, Miss. from Oct. 26-28.
