KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island junior Ben Spitz finished in a tie for fifth at nine-overpar to lead the Rams to a fourth-place finish out of 16 teams at the 12th-annual Adams Cup of Newport Cleveland Golf Classic at Newport National Golf Club.
Texas A&M won the team championship, outdistancing second-place North Carolina by five strokes, third-place South Carolina-Aiken by 12, and URI by 23.
North Carolina junior Martin Ureta won the individual title, shooting a two-over par 216 over three rounds, two strokes ahead of runner up Bronson Burgoon, a junior from Texas A&M. The pair shared the low round of the tournament as both carded a three-under par 69 in the final round.
Rhode Island junior Jason Pannone and freshman Mark Stevens tied for 18th place with three other players at 15-over par, while junior Jesse Larson finished tied for 45th at 22-over par and junior Devon Quigley ended up tied for 66th at 27-over par.
