NEWPORT, R.I. -- Day one at the 15th Annual Adams Cup of Newport is complete, after 36 holes of action at Newport National Golf Club (par 72-7,244 yards).

The University of Rhode Island sits in fourth place after 36 holes of play, totaling 594 strokes (+18). The Rams shot a 294 in the morning session, followed by a total of 300 in the afternoon round.

Texas A&M sits atop the team leaderboard, at 10-under par 566 (286-280). Minnesota is second in a five-under par total of 571 (284-287). Southern Mississippi ranks third (+13) with a total of 589 (298-291).

Leading the way for the Rams is Bill Forcier, who is tied for 10th place overall with an even-par total of 144. Forcier carded a one-under 71 in the morning session, while coming back with a one-over 73 in the afternoon.

Newcomer Kevin Josephson is tied for 23rd overall, with a two-round total of 149 (74-75), while Brad Valois is two strokes behind, at 151 (75-76). Taylor Fountaine is tied for 32nd overall (74-77=151) while Mark Stevens is tied for 41st (77-76=153).

Three Rhody golfers are competing as individuals. Bill McDonald (77-84=162) and John Kelly (79-82=161) sit in a tie for 66th place, while Cody Larson is tied for 74th (79-83=162).

Texas A&M's Bronson Burgoon sits atop the individual leaderboard, with a nine-under par total of 135. Burgoon opened with a -3 round of 69, before carding a tournament-best score of 66 in the afternoon. He did not card a bogey during his first 36 holes of play. Rocky Cleland of Southern Miss is second overall, at -5 (69-70=139).

In total, nine Adams Cup golfers are playing under par through the first 36 holes.

The final 18 holes of the Adams Cup of Newport will be contested tomorrow, beginning at 8 a.m. at Newport National Golf Club.
