WETHERSFIELD, Conn. -- Rhode Island placed fourth at the CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational, which concluded on Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Wethersfield Country Club (par 71, 6614 yards).
The Rams shot a combined, two-day/36-hole score of 586. Laval University, out of Quebec, took top team honors with a 572 (286-286). Rhody opened the tournament play with a 3-over par score of 286, before closing out with a score of 299 after the second and final round of play.
Branden Chicorka finished in ninth place overall to lead the way for the Rams. He opened with an even par 71 before closing out on Sunday with a 74, good for a two-day score of 145.
Jared Adams, in his first collegiate tournament, was one stroke back of Chicorka, tying for 10th place. Adams shot an opening round 74 before closing with a second-day, 1-over round of 72.
Andrew Fiorenzano also tied for 10th place. He fired the team's low round of the tournament on Saturday, with a 70, before closing with a second round 76. Jeffrey Ray tied for 25th, with a combined score of 152 (72-80), while Taylor Fontaine rounded out the Rhody golfers tied for 27th place (76-77=153).
Next week, Rhode Island hosts the 19th Annual Adams Cup of Newport. One of the finest golf tournaments on the East Coast, the Adams Cup will be contested from Sept. 19-20. The first 36 holes of play will be contested at Newport National Golf Club, followed by the final 18 holes of competition at the Carnegie Abbey Club.
