Rhode Island Wins Northeast Invitational

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. - Rhode Island senior Jason Pannone carded the low round of the tournament with a three-under par 69 to finish in a tie for second place at two-over par and lead the Rams to the team championship at the Northeast Invitational, Saturday, at Green Valley Country Club.
The Rams finished the two-day, 27-hole tournament with a score 446 (153-293), followed by Sacred Heart (150-299=449), Harvard (153-299=452), Quinnipiac (151-302=453) and Central Connecticut (152-302=454) in the 11-team field.
Quinnipiac's Steve Velardi (35-72=107) finished at one-over par, one stroke ahead of Pannone (39-69=108) and three other golfers who finished in four-way tie for second place.
Rhody sophomore Mark Stevens (37-73=110) tied for eighth place at four-over par, while senior Jesse Larson (40-71=111) was one stroke back in a tie for 10th place.
Senior Devon Quigley (37-80=117) finished in a tie for 25th place at 11-over par, while junior Jarryd Dillas (40-89=129) ended up in 59th place for the Rams.
Next up for the Rams is are the Atlantic 10 Championships, May 4-6, in Winter Garden, Fla.
