Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. - The University of Rhode Island Men's Golf team sits in fifth place at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championship after first round play. The tournament is being held on the 6,887 yard El Campeon course at the Mission Inn Resort.

Taylor Fontaine carded Rhody's low round of the day with a one-over par 72. Mark Stevens shot a 73, while Brad Valois and Kevin Josephson each came in at 77. John Kelly shot an 83 in his opening round.

Charlotte holds the first round lead at 282. Charlotte's Stefan Wiedergruen leads the event at three-under par, individually.
