Stevens Leads Rams at Furman Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Mark Stevens led Rhode Island with a tie for 11th place overall at the 40th Annual Furman Intercollegiate, held at the Furman University Golf Course (par 72, 6,944 yards).
The senior shot a two-day total of 149 (71-78) at the par-72 Furman, tying with three other golfers at five-over par. Stevens carded eight birdies during his two rounds of play.
Taylor Fontaine finished tied for 20th place overall. The freshman followed up a first-round 73 with a 79 on the second day of play (73-79=152).
Brad Valois finished in a tie for 95th place overall (83-79=162), while teammate Kevin Josephson ended in a tie for 101st place (80-83=163). John Kelly was 108th (83-84=167). Furman's Austin Reeves was the individual medalist, firing a tournament record 66 in the second round.
As a team, the Rams finished in a tie for 15th place overall. URI shot a first day total of 307, followed by a second round 319 for a total of 626 (+50). East Carolina took the team title in a playoff, edging host Furman and Virginia Tech.
