Greenville, S.C. - The University of Rhode Island Golf Team sits in tenth place at the Furman Intercollegiate after first round play. This marks the 40th playing of the tournament, being held on the recently renovated Furman Golf Club (Par 72-6,994 yards).

First round play was suspended last night at around 6:30 p.m. At the time, Rhode Island had completed approximately half of its round. Play resumed this morning at 9:30 a.m.

Rhody finished up with a team score of 307 on Saturday. The Rhode Island five are 11 shots behind the team leader, the University of North Florida. There are nine teams within ten shots of the lead.

Mark Stevens sits in a tie for second individually. The senior played the back nine at +2 before rain halted play last night. The New Hampshire native took advantage of four birdies on the front side this morning, closing with a 3-under par 33 and a first round 71.

Taylor Fontaine turned in a solid round for the Rams. The freshman shot a round of 1-over par 73 in poor conditions. He currently sits in a tie for eighth place overall.

Kevin Josephson made birdies on his 16th and 17th holes of the round, to close with an 80. John Kelly and Brad Valois each came in with rounds of 83.

Furman's Daniel Bowden leads the event at 3-under par.

The tournament, originally scheduled for 54 holes, has been shortened to 36 holes after heavy rains continued to soak the course throughout Saturday and forced the cancellation of the scheduled second round. The final round is now set to take place on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.
