Rams Finish in 19th Place at Furman Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The University of Rhode Island golf team finished 19th overall at the Furman Invitational, held at the par 72, 6,800-yard Furman University Golf Course. URI finished with a three-day total of 923 (312-309-302). Tennessee-Chattanooga won the team race, totalling 874 (287-291-296) for the three-round tournament. Mark Stevens led the Rams, tying for 42nd place overall. Stevens carded an opening round 73 (+1), before shooting 76 and 77 in the final two days of competition. Paced by a final round 72, Pat Pelletier finished in a tie for 64th place overall. He shot a three-day total of 229 (79-78-72). Brad Valois had the best round by a Rhody golfer, carding a 71 (-1) in Sunday's third round. He tied for 79th (77-83-71=231)), while Jarryd Dillas (t122nd - 83-77-82=242) and Bill McDonald (t127th - 84-78-83=245) round out the Rhody golfers. Chattanooga's Jonathan Hodge claimed the individual title (69-73-71=213). The start of the final round was delayed until 11:45 a.m. after second round play had to be completed on Sunday morning due to Saturday's play being suspended by darkness. The Rams return to action on April 3-4 at the Marshall Invitational, in Huntington, W.Va.
