PINEHURST, N.C. - Rhode Island senior Ben Spitz carded a two-round total of 3-over-par (including an even-par 72 in the second round) to lead the Rams to 12th place out of 17 teams at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate in North Carolina. Rain shortened the tournament to only two rounds.
Southern Methodist won the event by four strokes over second-place UAB, as Indiana, Charlotte and UNC-Greensboro rounded out the top-five teams.
Junior Jesse Larson finished tied for 20th at 6-over par, followed by junior Jason Pannone (T47, +9), freshman Mark Stevens (T69, +13) and junior Devon Quigley (T85, +18).
URI is off until April 7-8 when it competes in the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W.Va.
