KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island golf head coach Gregg Burke has announced that redshirt junior Jason Short will serve as team captain for the 2018-19 season.

"We don't name a captain every year so to be a Rhody Golf captain takes a special young man," head coach Gregg Burke said. "In Jason we have someone who always puts team before self. He has had to scratch and claw his way into the lineup so he understands what it takes. He is the consummate student-athlete."

Short has competed in 18 tournaments for the Rams over the last two-plus years, collecting Atlantic 10 Golfer of the Week accolades and a pair of A-10 Rookie of the Week awards along the way. He has recorded five top-15 finishes throughout his career with his best performance coming at last year's Coca-Cola Invitational, where he tied for first overall.

"We are fortunate to have a strong veteran presence on the team this year," Burke added. "In addition to Jason, Brody King and Dawson Jones are two great team leaders I can always turn to."

The Rams are back in action on Monday, Sept. 17, when they open play at the Hartford Hawks Invitational.
