KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman Bobby Weise has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the week, announced Friday afternoon by the conference office. It marks the third year in a row that a Rhody golfer wins an A-10 award following the first week of competition.
A Freehold, N.J. native, Weise was the Rams' top finisher at The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red, combining for a 215 (+5) over the three-round tournament. He opened with a 3-over 73 before carding a 71 his second time through. Weise then closed out competition with another 71 on Sunday afternoon, jumping up seven spots on the leaderboard to finish in a nine-way tie for 22nd place.
Overall, the Rhody rookie parred 43 holes and recorded three birdies.
The Rams return to action on Monday morning, when they open play at the Hartford Hawks Invitational.
