KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island head coach Gregg Burke has announced the addition of former golfer Eric Marchetti to his staff as a student assistant coach.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have Eric join the staff, especially since we will be so young this year," Burke said. "It is no secret that Eric is among my favorite athletes ever at URI, and I am looking forward to his input and perspective."
A North Attleboro, Mass. native, Marchetti spent four seasons as a member of the Rams. He made the team as a walk-on and competed in 12 events throughout his career.
Still an active golfer, Marchetti recently qualified for match play in the Rhode Island Amateur this past summer, before losing in the second round. He also competed in the 2017 the New England Amateur.
Marchetti is a Biological Sciences major who is working toward a second degree in Health Services.
"Eric is perfect for this role, as he was a non-recruited walk-on who had to try out two consecutive years to make the team," Burke added. "His work ethic on the range and in the classroom epitomizes who and what we are."
