Houston, Jones & Walthouse Named to PING All-Northeast Region Team

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island's Billy Walthouse, Dawson Jones and Chris Houston have been named to the 2017 PING All-Northeast Region Team, announced Saturday afternoon on collegiategolf.com. Of the 13 Northeast programs recognized, only Penn State (4) had more All-Region selections than Rhode Island.

Houston, a grad student who completed his undergraduate degree at Penn State, was the individual medalist in two tournaments this year - the Quechee Club Collegiate Challenge and the Manor Intercollegiate. He was URI's top finisher in three tournaments overall and had seven top-20 finishes. The Gilford, N.H. native ended the season with a 72.4 stroke average.

A Howell, N.J. native, Jones finished just behind Walthouse in scoring with a 72.0 stroke average. He carded Rhody's low round of the year at The Doc Gimmler at Bethpage Red, shooting a second-round 63 on the par-70 course. Overall, the Rhody sophomore had three top-5 finishes, and finished 22nd or better in all 10 tournaments.

Walthouse finished his senior season with the team's best stroke average at 71.8. He was Rhode Island's top finisher in five of the team's 10 events this year, turning in a pair of second-place finishes as well as seven top-15 finishes.

Houston, Jones and Walthouse also were three of 10 Atlantic 10 golfers selected to the league's All-Confernece team.
