KINGSTON, R.I. - Former Rhode Island All-American quarterback Tom Ehrhardt was one of six inductees at the 38th annual Providence Gridiron Club banquet on Wednesday night.

Ehrhardt (Westbury, N.Y) helped the Rams to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 1984-85 and was named All-America in both seasons.

"Football is the ultimate team sport," Ehrhardt said, following his induction. "The reason I made it here is because of the guys I played with. This is more of a team award and that is what I'm most proud of."

During his tenure at URI, Ehrhardt completed 673 passes (second all-time), threw for 8,378 yards (third all-time) and 78 touchdowns (first all-time).

Eight of Ehrhardt's 78 career touchdown passes came on Nov. 16, 1985 as helped the Rams to a 56-42 win over Connecticut, which secured URI's perfect 5-0 conference record and an appearance in the NCAA championship.

Ehrhardt also threw for 566 yards against the Huskies in helping the Rams rally from a 42-28 halftime deficit. His 566 yards passing and eight touchdowns still stand as single-game school records.

"It is great to be recognized, but our team was never about individual achievement and I think that was one of the main reasons we were so successful," Ehrhardt said.

In his two years as a starter, Ehrhardt helped guide the Rams to a 20-6 record. In addition, URI won two Yankee Conference Championships and won two NCAA playoff games during his tenure.

"It seems like yesterday when I was playing football here," Ehrhardt said. "Coming back here brings back a lot of memories."
