KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island football team (1-8; 0-6 CAA) hits the road for the final time in 2009 as it heads to Maine (4-5; 3-3 CAA). Kickoff is set for Noon at Alfond Stadium.

Rhody enters Saturday's contest in the hopes of building on last week's 55-42 loss at nationally-ranked New Hampshire. Despite the loss, the URI offensive unit exploded for a season-high 42 points and 535 yards of total offense.

In its last three meetings with New Hampshire, Rhode Island has racked up 1,589 yards of total offense (537 - 2007; 517 - 2008; 535 - 2009).

Junior quarterback Chris Paul-Etienne led the way offensively as hit accounted for five touchdowns, running for one and passing for four scores. Etienne also threw for 424 yards through the air, which ranks as the eighth-best single game total by an Football Championship Division (FCS) quarterback in 2009.

Three of Etienne's touchdown passes went to senior wide receiver Shawn Leonard, who finished the game with a career-high 275 yards en route to earning CAA Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week and the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet award.

Defensively, URI forced New Hampshire into two fumbles. This season, Rhody has forced its opponents into 18 fumbles. The 18 fumbles forced by the defensive unit ranks as the second highest mark for a single season in school history.

The URI school record for forced fumbles in a single season is 22, which was set back in 1995. This season, Rhody is averaging two forced fumbles per game (2.14).

This week Rhody will take on a Maine squad that hopes to rebound from its 22-14 loss last week at James Madison. The Black Bears feature the league's third-best passing offense (217.0). Defensively, Maine is led by sophomore Donte Dennis and Jerron McMillian. Dennis currently ranks fifth in the CAA with 10.0 tackles per game, while McMillian leads the league with five interceptions.

As always, Steve McDonald and Terry Lynch will handle the play-by-play on the Rams Radio Network (WHJJ 920 AM).
