Nov. 11, 2009
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Rhode Island senior wide receiver Shawn Leonard received the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston Gold Helmet Award Wednesday afternoon on the campus of Harvard University.
Leonard received the weekly honor for the first time in his career following his performance against nationally-ranked New Hampshire last Saturday where he hauled in 10 catches for 275 yards and three touchdowns, all of which were career-high totals for a single game.
Leonard's 275 receiving yards rank as the third-best single-game total in school history and are the fifth-highest receiving total in CAA Football history.
He has now garnered 411 receiving yards (19 catches) and five touchdowns in his last three games.
His second touchdown of the afternoon was a 72-yard reception, which is the Rams' longest offensive play from scrimmage this season.
On Monday, Leonard was selected as the Co-CAA Football Offensive Player of the Week.
URI returns to action next week as it heads North to take on Maine. Kickoff is set for Noon.
