KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island football team took down previously unbeaten Boston University 22-7 on Oct. 20, 1984 to take sole possession of first place in the Yankee Conference.
Rhody's victory over the Terriers came on Homecoming weekend in front of a record 13,052 fans at Meade Stadium.
URI's win was its fifth-consecutive victory as it improved to 7-1 on the year.
Junior quarterback Tom Ehrhardt threw a pair of touchdowns one of which went to junior wide receiver Dameon Reilly, who finished with a game-high 101 yards receiving.
Defensively, URI set the tone early as posted on a goal line stand on the Terriers' first offensive series. Rhody went on to hold BU scoreless in the first half as it took a 14-0 lead into the locker room.
In the third quarter, URI recorded its first safety of the season to take a 16-0 lead that it would not relinquish.
