Rhode Island-Brown Football To Be Televised on Cox-3

Aug. 15, 2003

KINGSTON, R.I. - Cox-3 has announced that it will televise Rhode Island's Oct. 4 football game at Brown. The game will be played at Brown Stadium with kickoff slated for 1:00 p.m.

It will mark the second time that Cox-3 has aired the annual Governor's Cup game. Cox-3 broadcast the 2000 match-up in what has come to be one of the greatest games in the 87-year history of the series. In the 2000 game, Rhode Island rallied for a 42-38 win. There were six lead changes in the fourth quarter and the outcome wasn't decided until David Jamison's 17-yard game-winning score with :07 left in the game.

Despite a 3-9 mark last year, Rhode Island set a school record rushing 2,904 yards. In addition, freshman quarterback Jayson Davis set school marks for touchdowns (11) and rushing yards (679) by a quarterback.

Brown posted a 2-8 mark in 2002. Coach Phil Estes rallied the Bears to wins in their final two games, wins over Dartmouth and Columbia.

In addition, Rhode Island's Sept. 27 contest at Richmond will be aired regionally on CSTV (College Sports Television). Affiliates have not yet been announced.
