KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island football team took part in its second session of spring practice Saturday afternoon under the direction of first-year head coach Joe Trainer.

Saturday's practice marked the second of 15 sessions the team will hold, concluding with the Blue and White game on Saturday, April 25.

The weather cooperated for the Rams for the second straight day as temperatures once again settled into the mid-50's.

Rhody players practiced in helmets and no pads, but that will all change on Monday as the team will suit up full pads for the first time this spring.

In between 7-vs.-7 drills the squad worked several fundaments, including protecting the ball and forcing turnovers. Last season URI forced its opponents into 23 turnovers.

However, the biggest thing the coaching staff has stressed to the players this spring is to FINISH. A year ago, Rhody lost four games by 10 points or less and two by five points or less.

The coaching staff has also placed a strong emphasis on senior class serving as the backbone of the program. At the end of practice each of the 19 seniors run sprints, while the underclassmen cheer them on.

Rhody returns to the practice field on Monday at 3:45 p.m. All spring practices are open to the public and fans are encouraged to attend. Please visit GoRhody.com for news, recaps, interviews and photos from spring ball.
