Football Announces a Pair of Coaching Additions
March 17, 2009
KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island football head coach Joe Trainer announced today the addition of two members to his coaching staff. The list includes former Temple University assistant Ryan Roeder and former Holy Cross player Ari Confesor. In their new roles, Roeder will coach the wide receivers coach, while Confesor will serve as the assistant secondary coach. "Both of these guys bring strong credentials to our program, but more importantly they are both quality people and they will fit in great here at the University of Rhode Island," Trainer said. Roeder comes to Kingston after spending the past three seasons as an assistant coach with Temple. During his time with the Owls, Roeder worked with the wide receivers, tight ends and assisted the offensive line coach. In 2008, Roeder coached Temple senior wide receiver Bruce Francis, who finished the year with 13 touchdowns, which ranked among the top 10 in the Mid-American Conference. As a player, Roeder earned First Team All-Northeast Conference honors as a quarterback and led Albany to the 2002 NEC and ECAC Championship titles. As a senior, he completed 131-of-213 passes for 1,366 yards and eight touchdowns. Roeder earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees at the University of Albany. "Ryan was highly recommended to us," Trainer said. "Coach Pincince worked with him at Holy Cross, so there was already a comfort zone with him. He's got great professional experience and we are really excited that he is on board for this season." Confesor joins the coaching staff after a successful playing career at the College of the Holy Cross (2000-03). In four years with the Crusaders, Confesor was selected Second Team Sports Network All-America and First Team All-New England in both the 2002 and 2003 seasons as a wide receiver.
In addition, Confessor was named team Most Valuable Player as a senior and finished his career with the most career receiving yards in school history (2,352). He also owns school records for most receptions in a single season (90) and most receiving yards in a single season (1,213). In the spring of 2004, Confessor earned his degree in political science. "Ari is going to be a great young coach," Trainer said. "He was an outstanding player at Holy Cross and he played in the arena league for a couple years where he had a nice career, so we are excited to have him." |
