URI Announces Two Additions to Football Team
Jan. 24, 2008
KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island head football coach Darren Rizzi announced today that Mike Farr and Ty Bynum have enrolled at URI and will compete in spring practice with the Rams. Farr is a transfer from U.S. Naval Academy Prepatory School in Newport, R.I. while Bynum arrived in Kingston after attending Milford Academy in New York. "We're really excited to have these two young men on board here at URI," said Rizzi. "Each of them made an official visit to URI last weekend and we were thrilled when they both decided to join our program. They're each going to be an integral part of the success of the Rhode Island football program." Bynum helped Milford to a 12-1 record last fall. He played his high school ball at Conestoga Valley, where he set a Lancaster-Lebanon League record for career receiving yards with 2,327. As a junior, he hauled in 70 passes for 1,229 yards and 10 touchdowns, and the following year, the 6-1 wideout caught 70 passes for 1,098 yards and 19 touchdowns. CV captured the Section 2 championship with a perfect 7-0 mark that season and advanced to the second round of the District 3 Quad-A playoffs. Bynum finished his career with two Associated Press Quad-A First Team All-State selections. Farr, meanwhile, enjoyed a standout high school career as an offensive lineman at Don Bosco Prep, capped off with a Parochial Group IV State Championship and a No. 7 ranking nationally as a senior in 2006. A native of Cornwall, N.J., Farr was also a standout wrestler at Don Bosco Prep, advancing to the consolation semifinals at the N.J. State Championships as a senior in 2006. The Rams open the 2008 season on August 30 when they host Monmouth University.
