BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Quarterback Steve Probst threw for 145 yards through the air in his Rhode Island debut, but it was not enough as the Rams (0-1) fell 31-0 to Buffalo on Thursday night at UB Stadium.
The transfer from Hofstra was 18-of-42 on the night, tossing an interception.
Defensively, junior Chris Edmond led the way with nine tackles. He also registered a sack. Matt Hansen added eight tackles, while Dan O'Connell had five stops and a fumble recovery. Jarrod Williams notched an interception.
The Rams trailed by just three points at the end of the first quarter, but in the second quarter, Buffalo exploded for 21 points and took a 24-0 lead into the locker room at the break.
Buffalo scored a pair of touchdowns in the final two minutes of the first half, as Bulls quarterback Jerry Davis connected with wide receivers Marcus Rivers and Alex Neutz from 38 and 21-yards out, respectively.
Rhody had a pair of scoring opportunities in the first half, but were unable to come away with any points.
URI opened the second half on a high note as Brandon Johnson-Farrell dashed 68 yards down the sideline on a play from scrimmage, giving the Rams a great scoring opportunity on the UB 19-yard line. But the Rams were unable to capitalize as sophomore Louis Feinstein missed a 29-yard field goal wide left.
The Bulls added another touchdown in the third quarter as Davis found wide out Terrel Jackson for a 17-yard hook up, which made the count 31-0 and capped a four-play 69-yard drive that spanned 1:19.
Rhody held the Bulls scoreless for the remainder of the game.
The Rams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 11 as they head to Bronx, N.Y. to faceoff against the Fordham Rams. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
