Rams Rise to No. 18 in STATS Top 25 and No. 17 in AFCA Coaches Poll

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island's rise through the national rankings continued Monday, as the Rams moved up to No. 18 in the STATS FCS Top 25 Poll and No. 17 in the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll.

With a 23-16 victory at Harvard Friday night, Rhode Island continued its strong start to 2018, improving to 3-1 overall despite playing three of its first four games on the road.

After beating Harvard, the Rams nearly doubled their vote total in the STATS FCS Top 25, getting 1,012 points in the poll, up from 685 last week. That helped Rhody jump four spots from No. 22. For the second week in a row, Rhode Island is one spot behind Sam Houston State, which received 1,291 points. The Rams are one spot ahead of fellow CAA Football member Villanova, which slid from No. 13 to No. 19 after a close loss at No. 12 Stony Brook.

In the AFCA FCS Coaches Top 25, Rhode Island moved up three spots. It was the second straight week the Rams have jumped three spots. Rhody got 205 points to finish one spot ahead of No. 18 Central Arkansas, which had been No. 12 in the poll last week. One spot ahead of Rhode Island was No. 16 Sam Houston State with 242 points.

There were seven CAA Football teams in both national polls this week. James Madison (2/2), Elon (10/9) and Stony Brook (12/13) all landed in the top 15 of both polls ahead of Rhode Island. Coming in behind the Rams were Villanova (19/19), Towson (24/24) and Maine (25/25).

Rhode Island hosts Brown Saturday in the annual Governor's Cup game at Meade Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. The game will stream for free on CAA.tv.
