KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island senior linebacker Justin Hogan has been named Co-CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning. The Wayne, N.J. native shared the honor with Maine linebacker Sterling Sheffield.

In Rhode Island's 21-19 victory at No. 15 Delaware, Hogan had six tackles and was part of two forced turnovers that helped the Rams clinch the win. His fumble recovery in third quarter ended a drive at the Rhode Island 24-yard line, and the Rams took the lead with a touchdown on their ensuing possession. Hogan also forced a fumble with 4:41 to go in the fourth quarter - again in Rhode Island territory – that teammate Brandon Ginnetti recovered to help seal the win.

Among Hogan's six tackles were a stop after a 1-yard gain and a third-down stop that led to a Delaware punt play, which turned into a botched snap that led to the first touchdown of the game for the Rams.

Rhode Island hosts UAlbany in the home opener Satuday, Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 1:05 p.m.
