Ginnetti Named CAA Football Defensive Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Brandon Ginnetti has been named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week by CAA Football, the conference announced Monday morning.

Ginnetti had five tackles, including three sacks, to lead the Rams to a 31-14 victory at Albany Saturday. It was the first time a Rhode Island player had three sacks in one game since Isaiah Grier did so against Hofstra in 2001. Ginnetti had three of Rhode Island's seven overall sacks, the most for the team since it had seven against Central Connecticut State on Sept. 10, 2005.

Ginnetti had 3.5 total tackles for loss in the game, a major reason Rhode Island held Albany to -7 yards rushing, the lowest rushing total by an opponent in at least two decades.

For the season, Ginnetti has 28 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks four pass break ups and one forced fumble. He has started every game at defensive tackle.

This is the second straight week Rhode Island has won an individual honor from the league. Freshman Matt Pires was the Special Teams Player of the Week after his 90-yard punt return for a touchdown against Elon on Oct. 21.

Ginnetti shared the weekly defensive honor with James Madison's Rashad Robinson, who had three tackles and returned an interception 82 yards for a touchdown in the Dukes' 21-0 shutout of New Hampshire. The interception, which was Robinson's CAA-best fifth of the season, was the third-longest return in JMU history and stopped a UNH drive into the red zone.

Rhode Island hosts No. 1 James Madison Saturday at Meade Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
