Jim Fleming to be Named Football Head Coach Monday, Dec. 23

KINGSTON, R.I. - University of Rhode Island Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn will announce the hiring of Jim Fleming as the 20th football head coach in school history during a press conference on Monday, Dec. 23.

The press conference will be held at 10 a.m. in the Alumni Lounge located on the second floor of the Thomas M. Ryan Center. Fleming is coming to Rhode Island from the University of Central Florida, where he has been the defensive coordinator for the last two seasons.

"We are thrilled to bring a coach as high caliber as Jim Fleming to Rhode Island," Bjorn said. "Jim has a tremendous track record of building winners over his 27-year career, and we are very excited that he will be our next head coach."

Fleming helped the No. 15 Knights earn a spot in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, where they will take on No. 6 Baylor on New Year's Day at 8:30 p.m. UCF Head Coach George O'Leary informed his team Thursday that Fleming had accepted the job at Rhode Island.

Fleming and his wife, Leslie, will be on hand for the press conference, which will be streamed live for free on GoRhody.com.
