KINGSTON, R.I. – Following his outstanding performance on Saturday afternoon, Rhode Island kicker Dylan Smith collected a host of awards, including four national honors.
College Sporting News named him one of five National All-Stars, The Sports Network and BSN selected him as their Special Teams Player of the Week and College Football Performance tabbed him FCS National Placekicker of the Week. He also was selected as the CAA Football Special Teams Player of the Week.
Smith accounted for all of the Rhode Island scoring in Saturday's 12-10 victory over Richmond. By making four field goals in the game, he tied the school record originally set nearly 25 years ago when Chris Cassara made four against Northeastern on Nov. 5, 1988.
The four field goals by Smith were made from distances of 24, 47, 23 and 19 yards. The 47-yard make tied for the seventh-longest field goal in school history.
For the season, he is 8-for-10 on field goal attempts and leads the Rams in scoring with 36 points.
Smith is the third Rhode Island player this season to earn weekly honors as linebacker Andrew Bose collected national and conference honors on Sept. 16 and James Timmins was a national honoree on Sept. 9.
