KINGSTON, R.I. -- Jimmy Baron was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Baron helped the Rams to a 2-1 mark, averaging 18.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 steals per game. The senior guard shot 48.3% from the floor (18-37), including an outstanding 13-of-21 from the perimeter - good for 61.9%.

His week began with a shooting performance for the ages, knocking down 8-of-10 3-pointers en route to 24 points at #8/5 Duke on Nov. 16. Baron connected on eight consecutive attempts during the game, including seven in the second half, which prompted Hall of Fame head coach Mike Krzyzewski to call it "one of the best halves of any kid who's played against us."

The eight treys set a new record for opponents at Cameron Indoor Stadium and tied for the second-best single-game mark in URI history. It was Baron's second career game with eight trifectas.

Baron contributed 15 points in just 20 minutes of action at Monmouth on Nov. 20, connecting on 6-of-10 from the floor and 3-of-7 from beyond the arc. He closed out the week with a 17-point performance at home versus VCU, knocking down two 3-pointers late in the game, while also registering three assists and three steals.

For the season, Baron leads the Rams in scoring, at 18.3 points per game.

URI returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when it hosts Hartford at the Thomas M. Ryan Center. The game is part of the 2008 Hoop Group Philly Classic and will be broadcast live locally on Cox Sports Television, beginning at 7 p.m.
