Rhody Downs Northwestern 76-64 in the First Round of NIT

Nov. 18, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Head coach Jim Baron announced that Kyle Cain has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic endeavors at the University of Rhode Island, beginning with the 2010-11 academic year.

"We are extremely excited to have Kyle Cain join our basketball program for next season," head coach Jim Baron said. "He fits into the Runnin' Rams style of uptempo basketball very well. He is an athletic forward who can run the floor and finish on the offensive end and block shots and give us a boost on the defensive side of the floor."

Cain, a 6-7, 210 lb. forward, is finishing his prep career at the New Hampton School in New Hampshire. He is one of four NCAA Division I signees for New Hampton and head coach Pete Hutchins.

A native of Calumet City, Ill., Cain starred at Thornton Fractional North H.S. He helped lead the Meteors to a 17-6 overall record during the 2008-09 season, competing in the Illinois 4A division. He earned All-State honors from the Illinois Basketball Services (IBS) and from the Champaign News-Gazette.

Cain played his AAU basketball with the Illinois Warriors and head coach Larry Butler.
