KINGSTON, R.I. -- Head coach Jim Baron announced that Blake Vedder has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to attend the University of Rhode Island for the 2010-11 academic year.

"We are very excited to have a player like Blake join our program," Baron said. "He combines size and length with tremendous athletic ability."

Vedder, a 7-3, 230 lb. center, is a native of Chesterland, Ohio and played his final season of prep basketball at the Impact Academy in Las Vegas. While with Impact, Vedder averaged 12.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 5.0 blocked shots.

Prior to his time at Impact Academy, Vedder attended West Geauga H.S. in Chesterfield, Ohio.

At 7-3, he will become the tallest player in Rhode Island history and will combine with senior Will Martell to mark the first time in program history that the team featured two 7-footers.
