KINGSTON, R.I. -- Meet new URI President David Dooley, as the Fast Break Club will honor head coach Jim Baron for his 2009 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year award on Thursday, July 16 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Coast Guard House restaurant in Narragansett.

Baron led the Rams to a 23-11 overall record during the 2008-09 season, including a trip to the second round of the NIT.

He is the only coach in Atlantic 10 history to win Coach of the Year at two different schools (St. Bonaventure in 1995 and Rhode Island in 2003, 2007 and 2009). Only Hall of Famer and former Temple head coach John Chaney has more career A-10 Coach of the Year awards, with five.

A limited number of tickets are available for this special event, so be sure to make your reservation today by contacting the URI Athletics Development office at (401) 874-2389 or by e-mail Owen Salvestrini, Development Associate.

Admission for the event is $75 per person and includes a dinner buffet and one drink ticket. In addition, when you purchase your ticket, you will receive an official gift acknowledgment recognizing a $50 tax-deductible contribution to the Fast Break Club in support of URI Men's Basketball.

Do not this opportunity to gather with fellow Rhody men's basketball fans to pay tribute to Coach Baron and his outstanding achievement.

The Fast Break Club is the official fundraising arm of the URI men's basketball program. Its mission is to encourage the involvement and financial support of former players, alumni, parents, and friends to enhance the URI Men's Basketball program.

Its objective is to provide the additional resources necessary for the student-athletes and coaches to compete successfully - regionally and nationally - thereby allowing them to do their part in bringing honor, national recognition, and high public regard for the University of Rhode Island.
