URI Announces 2008-09 Home and Away Atlantic 10 Opponents

July 2, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Four postseason selections from a season ago highlight the University of Rhode Island's 2008-09 Atlantic 10 home men's basketball schedule, the league office announced today.

The Rams, coming off a 21-12 campaign and a trip to the National Invitation Tournament, will host two teams - Temple and Xavier - that were among the field of 65 last year. Dayton and Massachusetts, which both participated in the NIT, will travel to Kingston. Additionally, Fordham, La Salle, St. Bonaventure, and Saint Louis will visit the Ryan Center.

"This is an exciting and challenging home A-10 schedule," said head coach Jim Baron. "Our fans will be able to enjoy some of the best that the conference has to offer this season at the Ryan Center."

Rhody's away A-10 slate will include five games against opponents who played in the postseason last season. URI will travel to Philadelphia to face two 2008 NCAA Tournament participants - Saint Joseph's and Temple. The Rams will also head to Charlotte (NIT), Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, Massachusetts (NIT), and Richmond (CBI).

The three schools that Rhode Island will face both home and away in conference play are Fordham, Massachusetts, and Temple.

"Last year, the Atlantic 10 proved itself as one of the top conferences in the country," Baron added. "This season will be no different and we're looking forward to the challenges you face, night-in and night-out, in league play."

Dates and times for all games, including the non-conference portion of the 2008-09 schedule, will be announced in the coming weeks.
