Bitee to Play in Portsmouth Invitational Tournament

April 9, 2008

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Parfait Bitee is among 62 of the nation's top seniors who will play in the 56th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, held at Churchland H.S. in Portsmouth, Va.

Bitee had a career-season for the Rams, en route to helping lead URI to a 21-12 record and a trip to the National Invitation Tournament. The Yaounde, Cameroon native registered career-highs in several statistical categories: scoring (11.8), field goal percentage (.496), field goals made (128), three-point field goal percentage (.512), three-point field goals made (65), assists (156), steals (26).

His .512 three-point field goal percentage was among the tops in the nation and was just one 3FG make short of setting a new URI single-season record for 3FG proficiency.

Bitee will play on the Cherry, Bekeart and Holland squad, along with: Brian Butch (Wisconsin), Patrick Ewing (Georgetown), Charron Fisher (Niagara), David Gomez (Tulane), Joe Crawford (Kentucky), Derrick Low (Washington State), and JaJuan Smith (Tennessee). His team is scheduled to open up play on Thursday night at 7 p.m. ET.

He is one of nine players from the Atlantic 10 Conference to compete in the P.I.T. - the nation's oldest amateur basketball tournament.

Later this Summer, Bitee will compete with the Cameroon National Team in the Olympic qualifying tournament in Greece.
