KINGSTON, R.I. -- On Sunday afternoon, Rhode Island travels to Massachusetts to take on its long-time rival in the first of two regular season meetings between the two schools.
The game can be seen live locally on Cox Sports Television, beginning at 4 p.m. Eric Frede and Abu Bakr will have the call.
The Rams (13-7; 4-2 A-10) and Minutemen (12-7; 4-2 A-10) have met on 134 previous occasions, dating back to the 1907-08 season. UMass holds a 77-57 advantage in the all-time series record. Last year, the two schools split their regular season meetings, with each team winning on its respective home court.
Rhody is coming off a 59-57 win at Saint Louis on Jan. 26. Delroy James scored 21 points and Marquis Jones added 13 in the Rams' first-ever victory on the Billikens' home floor. Orion Outerbridge added eight points off the bench, while Will Martell added six points and eight rebounds in the win.
Massachusetts is coming off a 78-69 win at St. Bonaventure on Jan. 26. Anthony Gurley led the Minutemen with 28 points, while Javorn Farrell added 16 in the victory. Sampson and Sean Carter pulled down eight rebounds apiece in the win.
Gurley leads UMass in scoring, at 20.4 points per game - good for second in the A-10 and 18th nationally. Javorn Farrell is also averaging double-digits in the scoring column, at 10.1 points per game. Sean Carter is tops on the team in rebounding, at 5.8 boards per outing, while Sampson Carter is averaging 5.2 rebounds per game.
Head coach Derek Kellogg's squad is averaging 69.3 points per game and is connecting on 41.8% from the floor and 28.7% from the perimeter. The Minutemen are 7-4 at home this season - including a 2-1 mark in A-10 play.
