Larry Harris has joined the Rhode Island men's basketball coaching staff. In his 27th year as a Division I assistant coach, Harris arrives in Kingston after having spent the last 15 years as an assistant coach on the NC State staff, serving under two different head coaches - Herb Sendek and Sidney Lowe. Prior to his tenure at NC State, Harris served as an assistant coach at Washington State during the 1995-96 campaign, helping the Cougars to a 17-12 record. Prior to his stop at WSU, he spent three years on the staff at Oregon State. Harris began his coaching career at Duquesne as a volunteer assistant coach before being promoted to a full-time position in 1986. He remained at Duquesne until 1993, when he moved to Oregon State. His final three recruiting classes at Duquesne were considered the finest in the school's history. The Cleveland, Ohio native was a standout four-year letterman at forward for Pittsburgh. At the completion of his career, he ranked as the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,914 points. After his playing career at Pitt, Harris played two seasons in the NBA with the San Diego Clippers and the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was a prep All-America in both football and basketball at Clearview H.S. in Lorain, Ohio. Recently, it was announced that he will be inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame in May 2012. Harris is the proud father of a son, Simon, a former NC State men's basketball player who is a member of the Dayton men's basketball coaching staff, and two daughters, Raquel and Mercedes.
