Dowtin Named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island junior guard Jeff Dowtin is the Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

Dowtin led the Rams (5-3) to an 83-70 victory over West Virginia at the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase, held at Mohegan Sun Arena Sunday afternoon. Named the MVP of the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase, Dowtin scored 18 points, had seven assists and grabbed five rebounds to lead Rhode Island past its Big 12 opponent. The Upper Marlboro, Md. native shot 7-of-14 (.500) from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 at the line against the Mountaineers.

This is the second career Player of the Week honor for Dowtin, who also nabbed the award once last season. It is his fourth weekly league honor overall, as he was the Rookie of the Week twice during the 2016-17 season.

Dowtin and the Rams travel to Hawaii this week to participate in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. Rhody plays Bucknell in the opening round on Saturday, Dec. 22. The game tips off at 10 p.m. EST and will air on ESPN3.
