Dowtin, Langevine Earn Preseason Honors; Rams Picked Fifth in A-10 Poll

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior guard Jeff Dowtin was named to the 2018-19 Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference Second Team, and junior forward Cyril Langevine earned Preseason All-Defensive Team honors, the league announced during its Media Day at Barclays Center Thursday morning.

Rhode Island – the defending 2017-18 regular season champions – came in fifth in the preseason poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches and media members. Saint Louis was picked as the favorite to win the league, receiving 348 points and 15 first-place votes in the poll. Saint Joseph's (324) and Davidson (314) rounded out the top three. George Mason (287) is ranked just above Rhode Island (221) and received one vote.

Dowtin and Langevine helped lead Rhode Island to the 2018 Regular Season Atlantic 10 title and into the Round of 32 at the NCAA Championship. Dowtin played in all 34 games for the Rams, starting all but one. On Senior Day, he came off the bench so senior Jarvis Garrett could be part of the starting five. Langevine made 31 appearances for Rhode Island, earning the start three times.

Dowtin was a constant contributor in last year's lineup as the starting point guard, logging the second-most minutes played on the team. As a sophomore, he ranked third in the country with an assist-turnover ratio of 4.40 and led the Atlantic 10 in assists per game with 5.6. His 3.54 grade point average in business earned him a spot on the All-Academic Team last season. Dowtin finished his sophomore campaign with 32 steals and an average of 9.6 points per game.

As a sophomore, Langevine ranked fifth in the Atlantic 10 with 1.2 blocks per game. He led Rhode Island in rebounding (5.8 per game) and finished the season with a team-high total of 38 blocked shots. Last season, Langevine averaged 18.1 minutes per game and shot a team-leading .640 from the field, averaging 6.1 points per game.

This is the third consecutive season that Rhode Island has had two players on the A-10's preseason all-conference team. Last year, E.C. Matthews was a first-team selection and Jared Terrell received both second-team and all-defensive team honors. In 2016-17, Matthews and Hassan Martin were part of the preseason team.
