KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island sophomore Jeff Dowtin was named Co-Player of the Week by the Atlantic 10, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Dowtin shared the honor with La Salle's B.J. Johnson.

In two victories last week, Dowtin averaged 22.5 points per game. He had a career-high 25 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds in a 95-93 overtime victory over Johnson and the Explorers Tuesday night. In that game, Dowtin was 11-for-12 at the free throw line to help the Ram win in overtime. He followed that performance up by scoring 20 points with five assits and no turnovers in 31 minutes Friday night against Dayton. The win over the Flyers clinched the first outright regular-season Atlantic 10 title in program history for Rhode Island.

Dowtin is having one of the top seasons by a point guard in team history. With two regular season games plus the postseason remaining, he already has 153 assists, which is the sixth highest single-season total in Rhode Island annals. Dowtin ranks third in the country with a 4.64 assist-to-turnover ratio. In conference play, Dowtin has 105 assists and 22 turnovers, good for a 4.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Seven times this season Dowtin has played at least 30 minutes without turning the ball over. Last year he led the Atlantic 10 in assist/turnover ratio in conference play, recording 55 assists to just 19 turnovers - a 3.24:1 ratio - over 18 games. Dowtin averages a team-high 32.7 minutes per game. Since Dowtin was inserted into the starting lineup midway through last season, the Rams are 38-8. In conference play, Dowtin is averaging 10.4 points and 6.6 assists per game while shooting .456 from the floor, .429 from 3-point range and .788 at the free throw line.

This is the fourth individual honor for the Rams this season. Jared Terrell was the league's Player of the Week for Jan. 22 and Nov. 27. Fatts Russell was the league's Rookie of the Week for Dec. 4.

Rhode Island hosts Saint Joseph's for the home finale Tuesday night at 7 p.m. The game will be aired on CBSSN.
