KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island will play Seton Hall in the first of two games at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as part of the NIT Season Tipoff.
The Rams and Pirates will face off on Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, Nov. 23 - at 6 p.m. in a game that will air nationally on ESPNU. Rhody will face either Virginia or Vanderbilt on Friday, Nov. 24. Network clearance and tip times for the Friday games have yet to be announced.
It will mark the eighth time that URI and SHU meet on the hardwood - the last matchup coming five seasons ago in multi-team event (MTE) play at the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic at Mohegan Sun. The Pirates won that game, 60-55, on Nov. 18, 2012. Rhody's last victory over the Hall came on March 19, 2003, as the Rams took a 61-60 victory in the opening round of the postseason NIT at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.

Each of the four teams in the bracketed portion of the NIT Season Tipoff advanced to the 2017 NCAA Tournament. Fifth-seeded Virginia advanced to the second round of the Big Dance, falling to Florida after beating Wilmington. Vanderbilt and Seton Hall were each tabbed as nine-seeds and dropped their first round matchups against Northwestern and Arkansas, respectively.
November's event marks the third-straight year at Barclays Center for the NIT Season Tip-Off, which has been played in New York City every November since 1985. Eventual NCAA National Champion Villanova won the event in 2015. Last November saw eventual NCAA No. 3 seed Florida State and fourth-seeded West Virginia featured in the 2016 NIT Season Tip-Off at Barclays Center.
The NIT Season Tip-Off is one of 11 college basketball events owned and operated by ESPN Events, a division of ESPN.
