KINGSTON, R.I. -- The 2013-14 schedule for Rhode Island's men's basketball team was released today, with the full Atlantic 10 conference slate.
After the lone preseason exhibition game against D-II Southern Connecticut on Friday, Nov. 1, the Rams open the regular season against Maine a week later (Nov. 8) at 7:30 p.m. at the Thomas M. Ryan Center.
On Nov. 11, URI hits the road to complete its series with SMU before returning home to host North Carolina A&T on Friday, Nov. 15.
Rhode Island is among the 16 teams that make up with 2013 NIT Season Tipoff. The Rams will head to Tucson, Ariz. on Nov. 18 and 19 in games that can be seen on the ESPN family of networks. Times and opponents are still to be determined for the Arizona pod.
Depending on results from Arizona, Rhode Island will either play in the championship bracket on Nov. 27 and 29 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, or will play on Nov. 25 and 26 at campus sites to be determined.
After hosting UMass Lowell on Nov. 23, Rhode Island travels to George Mason for a non-conference game at the Patriot Center on Nov. 30. This completes a series with Mason that was set up prior to the Virginia school joining the A-10.
The annual matchup against Providence will take place on Thursday, Dec. 5 and will play to national audience. Tipoff between the Rams and the Friars is set for 8 p.m. and the game can be seen live on the CBS Sports Network (CBSSN).
Rhode Island begins a home-and-home series at Detroit on Dec. 8 before closing out the non-conference slate with New Hampshire at home on Dec. 22 and a pair of road games in the 2014 calendar year - at Brown (Jan. 2) and at LSU (Jan. 4). URI may add an additional game at a later date.
This season, with the A-10 membership at 13 teams, the Rams will play each team at least once and four teams both home and away: Saint Joseph's, Fordham, Dayton and long-time rival Massachusetts.
Rhode Island opens up A-10 play on the road on Jan. 7 on national television, hosting Saint Louis at 7 p.m. in a game that can be seen live on the CBS Sports Network. Following the A-10 opener against the Billikens, Rhody travels to our Nation's Capital to face George Washington in another national TV contest - this time on NBCSN.
Other nationally televised conference games include: Jan. 18 vs. George Mason (CBSSN); Jan. 25 vs. Dayton (CBSSN); Feb. 6 at VCU (CBSSN); and Feb. 9 vs. Massachusetts (CBSSN).
Other home Atlantic 10 contests: Duquesne (Feb. 15), Saint Joseph's (Feb. 19), Richmond (March 1), and Fordham (March 5).
Other road Atlantic 10 games: at La Salle (Jan. 15), at Saint Joseph's (Jan. 22), at Fordham (Feb. 1), at Dayton (Feb. 12), at St. Bonaventure (Feb. 22); and at Massachusetts (Feb. 26).
The 2014 Atlantic 10 Men's Basketball Championship will be held from March 12-16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. There will be an opening round game Wednesday, March 12. First round games will be played Thursday,
March 13. The winners of those four games will advance to Friday's quarterfinal rounds, which will be produced by NBCSN. Semifinal games will be aired on CBSSN with the championship game to be played on NCAA Selection Sunday (March 16) at 1 p.m., live on CBS.
