KINGSTON, R.I. - On Sunday, Sept. 21, the University of Rhode Island baseball team took part in the 2008 Southern New England Walk Now For Autism event, held at Colt State Park in Bristol, R.I. The Rams joined more than 4,500 individuals who walked to raise over $265,000 for autism research.

"I'm so happy that we are able to get the guys out here and really do all we can to help be part of such a special event," said head coach Jim Foster. "Autism is an ever-growing epidemic and I'm a very strong believer in events like this that bring the community together and give people an opportunity to show their support."

Walk Now for Autism, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is Autism Speaks' signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom. Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research, but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.
