Hagey and Zaneski Named to Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference Team

2008 Atlantic 10 Baseball All Conference Team KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island seniors Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) and Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) were named to the 2008 Atlantic 10 Baseball All-Conference team, in voting conducted among the league's head coaches. Hagey received first team accolades while Zaneski picked up second team honors. Hagey led the Rams through the regular season with 14 stolen bases and has recorded a team-best 7 bunt-singles so far in 2008. He also posted the fifth-longest hitting streak in URI history, having reached safely in 15-consecutive games - and 23 out of 24 from April 5-May 10. A versatile infielder who has seen action at first, second and third base, he has turned in 16 multiple-hit performances this season to go along with a .433 on-base percentage and a .430 slugging percentage. He also was named to the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall. Zaneski, the team's 2008 Rick Ligi MVP Award recipient, finished the regular season leading the Rams with a .356 batting average, 72 hits, 46 runs, 44 RBI, 16 doubles, a .450 on-base percentage and 102 total bases. His 16 doubles ranks third all-time on the single-season list while his 44 RBI and 72 hits are the fifth-best single-season total at Rhode Island. Defensively, he has paced the team with 411 putouts and leads all A-10 catchers, having thrown out 26 base stealers. He also ranks third all-time at URI with 1,004 career putouts was one of 48 Division I student-athletes in the running for the 2008 Johnny Bench Award - which is presented annually to the nation's top catcher. The fifth-seeded Rams are set to take on fourth-seeded Temple in the opening game of the 2008 Atlantic 10 Championship, Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. All games will be played at Campbell's Field in Camden, N.J. - home of the Camden Riversharks.
