Red Sox Season Ticket Raffle Winner Announced

Deadline Approaching for Red Sox Season Ticket Raffle

April 3, 2009

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island vs. Dayton baseball game - originally scheduled for a 3 p.m. start this afternoon - has been postponed due to inclement weather in Kingston. The three-game series will begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow, followed by a Sunday afternoon doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.

All three games will be played at newly-renovated Bill Beck Field.

Rhody (14-10-1) enters the weekend looking to bounce back after an 0-2-1 week with losses to Central Connecticut and Brown and a 7-7 tie with Brown. The Rams are 4-2 in conference play having won 2-of-3 games at both Xavier and George Washington.

Offensively, freshman Mike LeBel (Quincy, Mass.) leads the way for URI with a .375 batting average, 33 hits and seven stolen bases. He enters the series riding a 13-game hit streak. Junior Oliver Palmer (North Kingstown, R.I.) has scored a team-best 26 runs while junior Rob DeVeney has driven in 22 runs on 27 hits. Senior Dan Rhault (Lincoln, R.I.) leads the Rams with a .618 slugging percentage and a .446 on-base percentage. Palmer, DeVeney and Rhault have each homered five times this season.

Probable starters for Rhode Island:
Game 1 - junior RHP Tim Boyce (Swansea, Mass): 2-1 record, 7.90 ERA, 30 K's
Game 2 - junior LHP Nick Greenwood (Southington, Conn.): 2-3 record, 4.95 ERA, 37 K's
Game 3 - junior RHP Eric Smith (Milford, Conn.): 2-1 record, 3.38 ERA, 23 K's

Dayton (16-10) comes to Kingston with a perfect 6-0 conference record, having swept St. Bonaventure and Charlotte in the first two weekends of A-10 play. The Flyers have won eight of their last night games.

At the plate, UD is led by a pair of players batting over .400 on the season. Jacob Spaeth leads the team with a .407 average while Aaron Dunsmore is just behind him at .404. Both Spaeth and Dunsmore have appeared in each of the Flyers' 26 games so far this season.

Probable starters for Dayton:
Game 1 - freshman RHP Mike Hauschild: 2-1 record, 4.64 ERA, 20 K's
Game 2 - senior LHP Quinn Haselhorst: 3-2 record, 4.74 ERA, 24 K's
Game 3 - freshman RHP Chuck Ghysels : 2-0 record, 4.75 ERA, 32 K's
