KINGSTON, R.I. - The University of Rhode Island baseball team's home opener against Maine scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled indefinitely. The entire three-game series between the Rams and Black Bears has been called off due to a snow covered Bill Beck Field.

Rhode Island has won two-straight games and sits at 5-9-1 on the season. The Rams snapped Eastern Kentucky's nine-game winning streak with a 3-0 win on March 12 and ended Indiana's six-game win streak with a 7-6 victory on March 13.

Freshman Jim Norcott (Norton, Mass.) was named Atlantic 10 Co-Pitcher of the Week after picking up wins over Boston College and Eastern Kentucky. Norcott pitched seven scoreless innings in his first collegiate start on March 12, shutting down an Eastern Kentucky team that came into the game averaging 13.8 runs per game.

Eastern Kentucky had won nine-straight games, scoring at least 10 runs in all nine victories. The only game the Colonels had been held under 10 runs this season was a 10-7 loss in the season opener.

The win against Eastern Kentucky improved Norcott's record to 2-0 on the season. He picked up his first career victory on March 23, throwing six-innings of two-hit relief in a win over Boston College.

Rhode Island is scheduled to play Boston College on Tuesday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m., but that game could also be in jeopardy due to the snow. Check back at GoRhody.com for updated cancellations.
